The 'Amen' Break
A really interesting discussion of possibly the most recognizable breakbeat of all time. It is a longer video but if music, particularly electronic music, interests you then this video is worth the watch.

My sentiments are best summed up by commenter Juliana Peña:
Also, Apple and iCloud foreshadow quantum computing no more than any other syncing web service does (as in, not at all).
I certainly wouldn't want my own name attached to that one without a rebuttal.[1]
Everyone makes mistakes (especially me), so one shouldn't be too hard on others. ↩︎
I was browsing Amazon for a nice little multitool for my bike when I came across this monster. I think this little "compact" has more tools within it than I have in my house.
Patrick Rhone:
There are those that believe that you need the experiences of the past and present to build the future. I’m calling bullshit. If you build on the past or present you simply extend the past and present. To build the future, you must let it stand alone. You must build it on top of a whole new platform. You must create whole new segments and spawn whole new eras.
There were so many good quotes in this short piece I found myself highlighting almost three quarters of the page in Instapaper. I'll only include one and urge you to view the original instead.
I’ve always thought of it this way: a good writer reads a lot of books. They see how other writers solve problems. They pay attention to what’s happening now as much as they pay attention to the classics. Good writers are readers first, but eagle-eyed, careful readers.
NetNewsWire will undoubtably be different without Brent at the helm, but I have good faith in any developers that he has deemed worthy to carry on in his stead. That said, I am anxious to see his new project!
It may be the person giving the account but a day at the Tumblr HQ sounds about as laidback and casual as you might have expected. I absolutely love reading about the workflows and daily routines of other people. Slightly voyeuristic, yet insightful all at the same time.

Apple’s radical notion is that touchscreen personal computers should make severely different tradeoffs than tradtional computers — and that you can’t design one system that does it all.
Microsoft believes that decades of legacy code alongside a new and potentially disruptive user interface is the right move for Windows 8. Gruber thinks otherwise. Can you blame him? Comparing their track records, I certainly cannot.
The only issue is me, looking for excuses not to write, and actively denying it.
I see my situation fully in his own predicament. I hope he finds his legs, as I hope I find my own.
Shell takes the essential elements of your web browser, desktop environment and window manager and combines them into a single minimalist graphical shell dedicated to using web applications.
An interesting take on the browser-as-desktop concept similar to Google's own Chrome OS.[1] Certainly not my cup of tea, but I can see reasons for Mozilla to push this kind of initiative.

A sobering list of, allegedly, common regrets people have when they lay upon their deathbeds. I would love to make it to the end of my life and be so fortunate to utter none of these regrets. It's not a game, but it is a conscious effort; an endeavour that I hope no one takes lightly.

Absolutely awful. I don't shop at Urban Outfitters but if I did, this would be a reason not to.
Upate (2011-05-30): Urban Outfitters has responded indicating that it is not them who should be worried about allegations of plagerism but Ms. Koerner. If that is the case then I retract my statement and apologize for jumping to conclusions without more conclusive research.[1]
